Dr. Hossein Abbasnejad, The Director General of Ports and Maritime Affairs of Hormozgan Province
IRANIMEX: A Showcase of Iran’s Maritime Capabilities to the World
I am Hossein Abbasnejad, Director General of Ports and Maritime Affairs of Hormozgan Province. I am honored to work in a province with a key role in the national economy. Hormozgan, due to its strategic location in the Persian Gulf and its possession of the largest and busiest ports in Iran, including Shahid Rajaee Port, which handles over 60% of the country’s trade, is recognized as the main hub of maritime transport in Iran.
In this context, our participation in IRANIMEX 2024 was planned with the goal of introducing these capabilities and developing international collaborations. This exhibition provided an unparalleled platform for showcasing the potential of our ports, attracting both domestic and foreign investments, and updating knowledge and technology in port and maritime management.
IRANIMEX, as one of the most important specialized events in the region, holds a distinguished position in the maritime industries of the Persian Gulf and even globally. This event, in addition to creating opportunities for business cooperation, facilitates the exchange of knowledge and technology among industry players. Therefore, we made every effort to utilize this opportunity to introduce our technical and commercial capabilities to foreign investors and international companies.
One of the most significant achievements of our participation in this exhibition was the introduction of the Smart Port Management System. This system, developed using advanced technologies such as big data, the Internet of Things (IoT), and artificial intelligence, plays a key role in increasing port operation efficiency, improving maritime safety, and reducing ship waiting times. These innovations demonstrate that the future of Iran’s maritime industries is directly linked to adopting new technologies and strengthening infrastructure.
Due to its unique geopolitical location along the North-South corridor, Iran offers many opportunities for investment in various sectors, including the development of dry ports, renewable energy, and the establishment of free maritime zones. Our constructive interactions with international companies at this exhibition demonstrate a strong willingness for collaboration on strategic projects in Hormozgan Province and for advancing maritime technologies.
In this regard, IRANIMEX not only provides an opportunity to strengthen international relations and expand professional networks but also allows for learning from the experiences and achievements of other countries. Therefore, it is recommended that future editions of the exhibition include more specialized sessions, a wider variety of educational panels, and broader use of digital technologies to enhance participants’ experience.
Ultimately, IRANIMEX serves as a bridge between domestic capabilities and international markets. This event not only provides an opportunity to showcase the country’s potential but also helps Iran achieve its rightful position in global maritime industries.
